Raise the Flag Bonus Competition #1: Fiction

Competition ID#: 3327
Competition status: approved
Submitted by: TCCOM-IOA-EDR/HA Plif/TC-1/ISDII Warrior
Competition runtime: 10/02/2021 - 10/09/2021 (2 days left)
Unit(s) involved: TIE Corps

Competition medals:
IS-GR/SR/SR/BR/BR/BR (top six)

Description:
The ships of the First Recon Division hung in orbit above Tusorix, the world first encountered by Battlegroup III. Nearly half a million pilots, crewmen, and troopers were planetside after shore leave was granted by the Grand Admiral. Care was taken to keep enough personnel on the ships to defend them if something happened, though that seemed unlikely considering the sheer number of vessels. A veritable cloud of armor and cannons.

Tusorix was a backwater compared to Aurora Prime, but it seemed like a dream after months of being cooped up in the fleet. The cities were large and filled with bars, the countryside was serene and the beaches were plentiful. Transports of all shapes and sizes were ready to take people anywhere they wanted to go at a moment's notice. After a couple of days, the long journey seemed to melt away.

High Admiral Plif was sprawled out on a luxurious bed at a resort near the equator, relaxing after a long day in the sun. His comlink chirped at him. He slowly reached over to pick it up and acknowledge the intrusion in his lovely day.

'Plif here, go.'

Commander Doralt from the ISDII Warrior spoke in a rushed tone. 'Admiral, we've detected incoming ships. They're heading for the surface at high speed, and there's a lot of them. The Fleet Commander wants everyone back ASAP.'

'Any motion towards the fleet?'

'Not yet, they seem to be spreading out for an assault on the planet.'

'Do we know anything else about them?'

'We're having trouble getting good readings. They seem to be deflecting our scanners.'

'Understood. Please continue contacting the other admirals.'

'Yes, sir.'

Plif clicked off the comlink and hurried to pull on his uniform and get to his shuttle. So much for shore leave. It was nice while it lasted.

======

Our first bonus competition for RtF 2021 has begun! The Fiction Bonus Comp will run from 0600 GMT on October 2nd to 0600 GMT on October 9th.

The prompt above is a jumping off point based on the current Emperor's Hammer storyline. Here's a few different angles that might be interesting to explore:

Shore leave on the planet prior to the incoming raid
Leaving the planet, returning to the fleet, jumping into your fighter and blasting off towards the incoming ships
Some of you might find yourselves trying to leave the surface while under fire, either on the ground or in the air
We have ourselves an opposing force that we don't know much about yet. What's learned about them over the course of your story might become canon moving forward.

There is no maximum word limit and we're not evaluating grammar so don't worry too much about that. Instead, the judging criteria will just be on the quality of the story being told. Works will be graded by the TCCS, submissions should be sent to tccom@emperorshammer.org. Please include a title! Humor is welcome but not necessary; the piece can have as serious a tone as you want it to. The top ten places will be awarded 300, 250, 200, 175, 150, 125, 100, 75, 50, or 25 bonus points for their ships and squadrons. Each pilot will also receive the general fiction points for their entry, 1-10 points multiplied by each set of 300 words in the piece.

Tips based on previous runs of the Fiction Bonus Comp:

We highly encourage you to tell a complete story rather than a first chapter of a larger story. It's hard to judge what a story might become in later chapters, so we have to go by what we're given.
Pilots often write from their own personal perspective and include pilots from their units in their stories. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone being upset that they were included in a story, though naturally I'd avoid putting someone in a negative light unless it was important for the story.
If you write a lot of words, keep in mind that having a story that's a bit slow in the middle might not be judged as favorably as one that was shorter but kept its momentum.

Good luck!

Description:
This competition will determine the Flagship of the TIE Corps, the TCCOM’s Escort Squadron, and TCCOM’s Wingman for the next 12 months. Any forms of activity presented by the pilots will grant points to their ships. The TIE Corps Command Staff and volunteers from the Emperor's Hammer Command Staff will be participating as Avenger Squadron aboard the VSDII Aggressor. All disputes will be settled by the TIE Corps Command Staff.

The number of points awarded for each activity are as follows:
Point System
Single Player

2 points for each TIE Fighter mission flown from the Battle Center
4 points for each X-Wing versus TIE Fighter mission flown from the Battle Center
3 points for each X-Wing Alliance mission flown from the Battle Center
5 points for each X-Wing mission flown from the Battle Center
10 points for every mission high score
10 points x # of missions in the battle for every battle high score

Each battle/free mission in the compendium can be flown only once throughout the month for credit in the competition. Note that battles already flown in previous months of this year are eligible to be re-flown for points in Raise the Flag, however, they will not count towards Ace of the TIE Corps competition awards.
Multiplayer

1 point for every LoS awarded from Star Conflict
5 points for every LoC awarded from Star Conflict
2 points for every LoS awarded from X-Wing versus TIE Fighter
6 points for every LoC awarded from X-Wing versus TIE Fighter
2 points for every LoS awarded from X-Wing Alliance
6 points for every LoC awarded from X-Wing Alliance

7 points for every LoC awarded from EA Battlefront 2
6 points for every LoC awarded from Squadrons
3 points for every LoS awarded from Squadrons
Note: Modifiers are not allowed in custom matches in Squadrons for 4 or 5 players. When submitting the results of a custom match with 4 or 5 players, a screenshot showing that no modifiers were used must be included.

For 2 or 3 players, the following set of modifiers may be used:
60% raider/corvette hull (both factions)
80% capital ship hull (both factions)
80% flagship hull (both factions)

When submitting the results of a custom match with 2 or 3 players, a screenshot showing what modifiers were used (if any) must be included.

Art

1-10 points will be awarded to each written work submitted with at least 300 words. Each TCCS member will review the work, assign a score of 1-10, and the average of the scores will be multiplied by each set of 300 words in the piece. For example, a 3000 word piece scored as a 6 would be worth 60 points. 3000 / 300 = 10, 10 x 6 = 60.

1-10 points will be awarded to each graphic submitted, judged by the TCCS. Each TCCS member will review the work, assign a score of 1-10, and the average of the scores will be multiplied by 1 for pre-existing images or memes, 3 for handmade or photography entries, and 5 for anything that would've taken some time in a graphics application. For example, a handmade drawing that receives an average of 6 from the judges would be multiplied by 3 to be worth 18 points. In addition, a 20% bonus will be granted for submissions meeting one of the “official” uses that will be announced and updated as the competition continues.

1 point for every new Single Player mission or battle review submitted with at least 30 words through the database

Bonus points

Bonus points will be awarded only to the pilot’s ship and squadron, but regular points coming from Bonus comp activities will be awarded to the pilots regularly.

Challenge’s Poetic Proficiency

Competition ID#: 3312
Competition status: approved
Submitted by: FL-SQXO/LCM Xylo Pethtel/Eagle 2-1/Wing X/ISDII Challenge
Competition runtime: 08/15/2021 - 11/14/2021 (1 month, 8 days left)
Unit(s) involved: ISDII Challenge

Competition medals:
IS-GR/SR/BR as described below

Description:
The Challenge is a great place to chat, play games, and even write stories with one another. But sometimes a little bit of rest and solo reflection time can be healthy, too. If you can find your way back to your bunks through the messes of bottles, of course.

If you’re an aspiring artist of words looking to flex your figurative finageries or simply want to try your hand at some harmonious lyrical happenings, you’re invited to prove the Challenge’s Poetic Proficiency.

Your task is simple. Every round, a general prompt will be given about something on the Challenge, her pilots, her crew, her history, or sometimes more Star Wars in general along with a poem type. You then write your heart and soul, or liver and Chalquilla, into a poem of the given type which will then be reviewed by your fellow competitors and a winner elected by vote. The stage is set, the stars spinning soliloquies, and the floor is yours. Practice your picturesque poetry and may the best be laid to rest and reflect.

There will be 6 rounds running from 2:01 AM EST Sunday, to 2:00 AM EST Sunday 2 weeks later, e.g., August 15th to the 29th. This is to get as many people involved as possible and give you all the time you need to get those Creative Challenge minds a churning.

The winner of each round’s voting will receive an IS-SR with the runner-up earning an IS-BR. At the end of the competition, a Poetic Champion of Words will be chosen by behind-the-scenes judges for the best overall prose in all metrics by which it can be measured. This Champion will then earn themselves an IS-GR.

To help “stimulate” some learning, Inferno, along with the medical crew, have started sending out word puzzles to help the members of the fleet regain some of their lost knowledge.

Method: At the beginning of every month COL Marenta will generate a word search and post the link. Each month the puzzle will be related to something specific, planets, people, craft, manufacturers, wars, a movie/book/series, etc. At the beginning of the month, COL Marenta will announce the winners of the previous month and send out the next month’s puzzle.

COMMANDERS CORNER

WORDS FROM OUR CMDR, LTC Tygra Shadowclaw:
I will be depending on the Flight leaders to step up. You're in a position of leadership which means you have some additional duties beyond that of a standard Flight member.

For those that haven't taken the TIE CORE course from the Imperial Academy, please do so. By not taking it you will limit yourselves to the Rank of Lieutenant and no higher. The course is not difficult and can be done in 30 minutes.

Questions, Comments? bring them to me. Complaints? Take them to your XO!

In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable. -Dwight D. Eisenhower
