Tornado Squadron Report 003
28 February 2009

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Good evening everyone. Do forgive my tardiness in releasing this report, as I've had a lot of real life things going on. Moving on! I'm glad that I was able to get in touch with most of you, though I'm disappointed in the lack of participation in the competition. I am afraid that I must declare the competition a wash, with no winners. I apologise to all entrants. I will likely try this again in a few weeks, but for now, our squadron will remain nicknameless. I sincerely hope that next time around, I can get more than a couple of you to get off your lazy hides, and write a few lines for me. Other than that, there isn't much for me to say, so moving on.

Ahead lies... THE NEWS, and by god there's lots of it! Mind you, it's not everything since 06 Feb, but it's every up to date bit of news, so read on!

- IWATS is back and better than ever! Not really, but at least it's back! Feel free to go take some new courses or even just study the course notes and learn something. There's only a few courses online right now, but that shouldn't stop you from checking it out at http://iwats.isdchallenge.org. One of the Challenge's very own, LC Zosite, is hosting the new IWATS site, so lets give a big thanks to him. Please let VA Astin, our DEAN, know if there's any problems.

- Love flying? Feeling like a masochist? Looking to break in that new joystick? Some mix of the three? Then the TAC Office needs you! Our beloved TAC, FA Dempsey, is in dire need of new TCS' (beta testers). The prerequisites are simple: You must have taken and passed the MCBS IWATS course, you must be willing to fly each battle within two weeks of its assignment, and then write a pretty but succinct report about it. Among the perks of being a TCS are the possibility of getting some nice medals, having that -TCS bit in your ID line, and of course, getting to fly the latest battles days, weeks, maybe even months before anyone else! Apply to the TAC if interested.

- There is a new version of EHSP out, at long last. It's finally Windows based, so say goodbye to those old, nettlesome .bat installers once and for all. At the moment, only the XvT patches have been converted to the new format, so keeps your eyes open for platform updates. You can find all new EHSP patches and the installer at the Patch Archive.
UPDATE: EHSP 1.1 is now out as well! It just happened to come out a surprising... six days before this report! Figures our beloved SCO had to beat me to the punch.
DOUBLE UPDATE: Earlier today, updated versions of all BoP patches have been uploaded to the patch archive, and are now ready for use with EHSP. Please delete all old BoP .bat patches though, as they may cause conflicts with EHSP. Thanks again, Mr SCO!

- Flayer Squadron, my last command, has a new CMDR! ATF veteran and old friend CPT Matt Dante has been appointed as CPT Wondra's successor as Flayer CMDR, on the Yellow Submarine (ISD Subjugator). I have confidence in his ability to lead my former command, and I wish him the best. Congrats, mate!

- Calling all former PROFs! The DEAN is looking for all former IWATS professors who may be interested in taking on their old exams. At the moment, he is only accepting applications from former PROFs who had served as PROF for their particular exam, and who are willing to actually maintain and update the exam, rather than just grading it, a crime many of us ex-PROFs were guilty of. If you're a former PROF and you're interested, please get in touch with VA Astin.

Next week: Who knows.

Closing Thoughts:

I remain disappointed at the lack of participation. Maybe next month, I can somehow get yous going. Forgive me for keeping this section short, but right now, I just don't have any other thoughts, other than that I hope none of you are expecting anything coming from February's MSE. I don't reward inactivity; if you want medals and recognition, then do something; I am fairly liberal on my idea of "activity". Thank you, and bonne chance a tous!
