Sin Squadron - Report #5
201702142145Z

The year continues to roll on by and I must admit to a certain amount of trepidation as we go forwards – quite simply this squadron is not in the best place it could be and I don’t see that improving anytime soon. Many of you will have noted the recent flurry of mails on the TC list following the removal/reappointment of a CMDR largely due to a lack of communication and the potential for confusion it brought about. I’m aware that many of you are hanging on with the TC as much out of tradition/habit as you are through any more practical desire to fly or otherwise participate. That’s not a bad thing, it’s the veterans who make this club what it is and make us different from many others – just look at Theta and their now traditional June frenzy backed by a lengthy hibernation!

What’s my point? Communication. Theta can get away with that because their key players stay in touch. We can’t, simply put, because Sin is presently far too quiet and as more time slips by without contact you all become increasingly disengaged through no fault of your own. I’m not asking for SC binges, mass LoC awards, TIE pilot files or the like – I’m asking for basic comms. I’ve always been clear that a CMDR should never need to run an AWOL check, it should simply be evident who isn’t there because they’re not talking. In this case I think a check is warranted as if I’m being completely honest I’ve had next to no contact to any of my mails or comms since before my stint as A:COM in December – all Sin pilots are therefore requested to report in by the end of Feb 2017 – a period of 14 days from this point.

Sin fundamentally has one communicative line pilot and that needs to change before anything else gets better.

Other than that, standing orders remain, participate in trivia and WARD comps where able or interested, fly where willing – our ability to run flight comps relies on more than 1 or 2 pilots being able to take part as it becomes little more than an auto-medal every round. If enough of you are willing to compete then I’m happy to support, otherwise if there’s anything else you need from me please don’t hesitate to use mail, Telegram, or more rarely IRC.

In Closing

Check in over the next 2 weeks and by the end of the month we should have a clearer idea of where we stand. Sin is in real danger of becoming unsustainable in the long term and I don’t want to be the one turning off the lights!

Yours Aye,
