First off, I really enjoyed the story and the audio associated with the radio messages. But this battle makes use a lot of surprise missions where things go differently in the mission than the briefing, which is fine if the goal messages make perfectly clear what you need to do, which this battle fails horribly at. Often the critical information for the mission was also given though a text pop-up in the animated briefing and not mentioned in the caption text at the bottom, so if a player skips through the briefing, only reading the text at the bottom they will miss critical information (E.I. that in mission 4 you need to dock with the containers, not the arrays). Also, often the goals would not even display as their sequencing would be off.

And, I have no idea how you are supposed to do mission 7 without infinite ammo.

1 star for effort. It is an epic endevour that has horribly gone wrong. so many bugs, invincible ships, unclear mission goals, bonus goals which are needed to finish the mission, wrong radio messages if you do things in a different order than the mission creator had anticipated... I will spoil mission 4 for you because it took me what felt like 20 tries to figure out what you actually need to do: you need to dock with the boxes, not with the realy stations themsleves, then identify the enemy ships and then distroy them. Coming to think of it, the battle is so not ready to be released, I'd have to take that one star back too.

This battle leaves the player with mixed feelings. On one side it's original and well written, having some privateers flying missions in Boba Fett's ship or Han Solo's. The missions in the Firespray and the FALC were so enjoyable and fun to play. Last mission was terrible, having to bring down an SSD all by yourself even in a T/Grd is kind of stupid, bringing all the previous good work into a muddy completion.

Not good. Half the missions left me guessing what I was supposed to do next, not a clue in sight. I'm pretty sure the 'Millenium Falcon' wasn't meant to be used arbitrarily, and how on earth does the player find himself stuck in a TIE Guardian, when he's not in Omega? Not to mention the bit where some n00b tactical guy decides to send an SSD into a warzone with NO SHIELDS??? In general: if you need to add invincibility to anything in order to ensure its survival for whatever reason, the battle usually sucks. In this, friendly MUTRs and T/D are invincible. Why are Imperials dogfighting in a MUTR?

Pretty sure this is a joke battle. Such unreasonable difficulty deserves less than a 0, so.. I do not advise you play this battle unless you are a) Deimos or Bruc or b) High on drugs

listing of why it is the worst battle ever: 3 sec AI lock, unclear mission objectives, unclear goals, mission 4 VERY unclear *tip* fly as fast as you possibly can and get to the CN/K sensor(close to name) as soon as freakin possible, then flay as fast as you can to the other container andif your lucky you can beat it, razer's with 3 sec lock with Adv. missiles(though good dodgeing missiles exercise), mission 7 overall,i would nitpick everything but i would need a whole page...unrealistic(SSD destroyed by T/G), too many enemy capital ships and spacestation stuff to destroy with little fighter support on your side, not to mention dealing with the "3 sec wonder" fighters at the same time you need to destroy capships and SSD. i can't give negative numbers so its 0. but if i could...I would.

In mission 4 (or was it 5) it is extremely annoying that when oyu fly a Firespray, a few minutes in the mission Razor Fighters hyper in practically next to your CORT you are supposed to protect and annhilati it ina matter of maybe 10 seconds... THis takes out all the funn of the entire battle...

The battle was originally created on a PII 200. What I'm seeing is a wide range of problems across various CPU speeds. I flew the battle myself again on a 2.1 gig machine, and ran into all sorts of timing problems because of the faster processor. All I can say is that it runs perfectly on a PII. What I can say is this. My biggest mistake was having events based on time instead of having them based on what the pilot does. As you can imagine, on faster PCs, the timing gets really screwed up which caused these problems. Well. I see this as a very valuable lesson and learning process. I went for an epic story and tried to make it unusual and interesting, but I see now, I needed to have constructed the battle in a different way than I did. Also it was specifically designed to use custom pilot ships, which would have mitigated some of the difficulty levels some pilots expressed to having. The ships were still pending being patched, but I should have waited until they were and I could add them in. My apologies to those of you who had a terrible time with it...

Well i liked the story on this and some of the mission work was good but there are a few things that really ruin it. The mission objectives are unclear at best, especially in mission 4. I agree with Bros on the issue of the MUTR, its pointless as it is. Overall in most missions there are too many fighters with too many warheads. Needs a bit of work to be considered really good, but still a good start

This battle still had some faults and was very annoying in some cases. Basically it's a "Superhero vs the world" scenario where you fly outnumbered 1 to 20 or something. What annoyed me the most is that the enemy fighters usually hypered in extremely close to you, so you ended up under fire from 12 fighters almost immediately. Oftentimes the new fighters kept crashing into me, simply because we were all in the same spot at the same time. Missions were still a little buggy in all kinds of aspects. The animated mission briefing in mission #1 for example showed 2 different sentences, while the 'review yor briefing' screen showed three. I also would remove the Adv torps the MUTR carries. It shoots them like they were laser blasts and the torps don't hit anything this way. That's what you get giving warheads to an AI craft that isn't supposed to be able to carry them. Once I completed mission #6, there was no place for me to return to. I had to use the 'Quit' mission command.

Still a bit buggy, but after reinstalling XWA entirely, as well as reinstalling the XWA 2.02 upgrade, the S-foils patch and the TIE Guardian patch everything seemed to flow along pretty smoothly. Still a few quirks in the battle, but overall a great storyline and a very impressive design.

I liked it. There is no bug to this mission (from what I can tell). If a hyperbouy doesn't show up, shoot at stuff. The destruction of a capital ship will bring about the hyperbouy. Your giving a MIS for a reason. In the gunboat mission, just use your jamming beam right and you will do fine.

ok i gave it before 0 , but after consideration i change it to 2 , sorry i just had very much difficulty with that battle more people also , AI crafts even on easy insane , on 5th mission cant hyper out cos sometimes hyperboy doeasnt appear , many more but i forgoten them , i didnt finish that battle it happened first time in xwa , so play it and judge yourself

Battle Bug Reports

GN Dunta Polo

2010-02-14

In addition to the bugs Dempsey reported -

TIE Guardian: Since the XWA patches don't have a spot on the database yet, I'm reporting this patch bug here - it lacks laser charge indicators in the HUD. Also this requirement should really be visible on the compendium. Mission 1: Primary goal is blank. FRT/Ks do nothing. Friendly forces ignore the M-CRV which doesn't leave despite what the debriefing says. FRS Savannah is set to invincible. No failed mission hints. Mission 2: FRT Jingara fly through each other. ATR Grappler is set to invincible (although this is apparently a plot compromise). FRS Savannah is set to invincible. No failed mission hints. Mission 3: No failed mission hints. Mission 4: Badly labelled friendly structures add to the confusion when trying to complete the initial primary goals. Mission 5: Primary goal doesn't show up after the LT3000 leaves. SSD Avenger has no targets at the Zann base. A/FRG Darkblood has no orders. Wraith Flight 2 sit there and do nothing for about 3 minutes, then leave, and the other friendly starfighters could use some global unit numbering. Mission 6: Primary goal shows as complete before you've 'gotten past these mooks'. No more goals appear after that. Failed mission hint is a bad joke - 'don't get killed'. Having to use Q and space to quit in a hostile area (no hypering back to the SSD Avenger is possible). Invulnerable friendly craft. Trying to equip the MUTR with torpedoes doesn't work in XWA, they fire like a laser turret unguided instead. Hostile asteroid laser batteries and cargo facility have no names. Mission 7: SSD Avenger enters the battle with no shields (this is totally inconsistent with the plot and common sense). Enemies all have the same global unit set. Friendly Missile Boats only arrive to attack the enemy SSD when its shields are down (again, lacks any sense whatsoever) and some of them leave before all enemy capital ships are destroyed. Golan platform Black Rancor needs a starship order but doesn't have one (in the first slot). Hostile asteroid laser batteries and cargo facility still have no names. Friendly starfighters don't arrive due to bad configuration (they need an entry point, either hyperspace or from the Avenger). FALC Xunrunner, MUTR Raven's Claw and T/D Queen's Ransom are invincible. Wing 19 starfighters all have the same global unit set so they cannot be differentiated. The LAS BATs move around like powered ships (this is because they have starfighter orders). MUTR Raven's Claw and T/D Queen's Ransome have no initial waypoints and sit dead in space until the enemy fighters hyper in.

M1: Problem with the primary goal (none displayed), the bonus goals are mandatory to complete the primary and I expect there's a way the M-CRV can actually escape without having to be invulnerable... Aside from that there's so few enemy fighters and you're so slow by the time you reach them they're gone already. And if the liner is supposed to escape, why ain't it moving...
M4: Vague goals suck - completely at a loss for what to do. And apparantly 'ID all the invaders' means only ID one of them.
M5: More vague goals. Well, no goal at all actually, seeing how you're apparantly supposed to kill off a lot of fighters, but there's not even a vague say-nothing goal. Of cousre that's not mentioning the crud of flying a TIE Guardian - since when are you the FC?
M6: Here's the T/G again. Way too many enemies with adv. missiles, needing friendlies to be invulnerable. Having to use Q-space in a hostile area to exit the mission
M7: Same problem with the goals, and having an enemy SSD there was retarded, especially when calling in 42 missileboats with rockets who can't finish it off

My thanks to George Lucas for creating the wonderful universe to play in. I was almost AWOL to be enlisted into the army the night Star Wars opened up in 1977.

Also thanks to Troy Dangerfield for making a hassle-free mission editor. It's still work designing missions, but it is a very user-friendly program.
