An interesting premise that misses the execution. Flight groups with the same names, capital ships with starfighter orders, lack of nav buoys indicating convoy entrance and exit points, shuttles defending the death star. Mission 2 is the most challenging but the mission with a flight group of 9 x-wings is strange.

I hate reviewing my own stuff, but I feel a bit obligated to explain this one. It has two key flaws: it was built during my brütal phase, where I just wanted missions to have realistic stakes - fighters will actually try to destroy your transports! Transports will not sit and wait for you to blow them up, they're going to actually try to make a run for it! There's ways to do those things and keep it balanced, but I think this leans way too hard, mostly because I specifically wanted to challenge myself, which isn't necessarily fair when X-Wing doesn't have difficulty levels.

The other flaw is it's a Death Star battle, which no one should ever make for X-Wing, myself included. I do think I did about as good as you could with the plot to justify it, but it's still exceedingly dumb.

That being said, I still... mostly love it? I'd still change a lot about it if I did it today, but I think it's a pretty good X-Wing battle, even with those two big flaws. That being said, because it's so brütal, here's a couple hints:

M1: Send your wingmates against one pair of A-Wings while you go after the other. Use your torpedoes to destroy those A-Wings quickly!
M2: Focus on destroying those freighters (they will run, use your wingmate commands as well), but save your torpedoes for the transports, which will run faster. You can wait on the Shuttles (they'll just try to attack you)
M3: Disable the X-Wings trying to attack you. The Transports try to re-capture the CRV one at a time, focus on the one that is trying to board (you need to destroy both waves here). Watch out for the A-Wings that will try to destroy the Shuttle - you can opt to leave them disabled if you want to spare yourself another wave
M4: Easy peasy. Just focus on the fighters
M5: Take out the X-Wings and then head for the trench. You don't need to be down at the bottom of the trench, feel free to hover above it. You can always drop out to recharge your shields as well. If you opt to fight the Shuttles, just be careful - collisions are a very real danger there

This battle had its issues both in terms of gameplay and story. Still it was quite fun to play and made me giggle a few times.
Mission 1 started slow and steady. Just your usual diplomatic meeting until... Hordes of X-Wings started to pour in. A few waves of nine! I think I bailed out on the 5th one given they shot down my cannons. It's not XvT damnit!
Thanks to the review from from FA Brukhar I was ready for mission 2. Be sure to save one torpedo for each of the six transports. They will be your primary concern given they really do want to escape quickly. One torp and two laser hits does the job.
In mission 3 you are pretty much on your own. Your wingmen are set to disable the Corvette and do nothing besides that pretty much. Again as soon as the Corvette is disabled there are transports popping out you need to take care of. Ignore them pesky X-Wings for as long as you can.
Mission 4 was wicked. I'm not sure if the Cruisers were set to fighter orders instead of starships but this was a wrestling game between the two. This mission also sported an interesting plot hole. So the Renegades built a Death Star with its original, flawed plans. And only then they sought for a solution to the exhaust port? >:P
Mission 5... It's an easy one really. If you deal with the first wave of X-Wings almost head on you can ignore the ones that follow. Shuttles won't be able to harm you at all. Just put max recharge to shields and lasers and keep frogging in and out of the trench. This mission was probably uneccessary.
Overall, interesting concept but this battle could use a bit more touch.

It was ok...except for some things. Mission 2: The enemy transports hyper out way too fast, making it a pain to actually kill them all and the freighters. Mission 5: While I appreciate the idea, fighting a Rebel Death star is absolutely retarded. Apparently the map is copied from a map already in the game and didn't think about the fact that it was hard enough, and the creator went and added unlimited fighters. Not a smart move, and hence my rating is low.

mission 4: Cruiser lightfeather and cruiser trust have starfighter orders. this results in them moving very erratically the entire mission , and fighters frequently crash into them as a result.

Installation Instructions:

X-Wing CD Installation: Download and install XCD from the SCO Site (http://sco.minos.net), files
archive, the editors section. (6k.) This will let you run custom missions. There is a full guide
available at the SCO site as well.
Put Max4.BRF, Max4.XWI, Max5.BRF, Max5.XWI, Satlit1.BRF, Satlit1.XWI, Waistem.BRF and Waistem.XWI
in your new "C:\Mission" folder and use XCD to start X-Wing CD.
Create a new pilot based on your pin and the battle's type and name. For example: 2883tc01.plt if
I would be flying the first XW-TC battle.
Fly the first 5 "Historical Combat" missions for the "X-Wing".
note: other custom missions in your mission folder will be overwritten.

X-Wing 95/Disk Installation: Run full install of the game so the mission files will be on your
hard drive. The game will take its mission information by preference from the hard disk, but might
still give a warning. In that case - Ignore.
Locate your X-W Directory and open the folder labeled "Mission", or "Classic" in X-W95. Copy the
*.xwi, *.brf files of this custom battle into it.
Create a new pilot based on your pin and the battle's type and name. For example: 2883tc01.plt if
I would be flying the first XW-TC battle.
Fly the first 5 "Historical Combat" missions for the "X-Wing".
note: the original 5 missions in your mission folder will be overwritten, so back them up.

Plotline.doc is merely an overview of each mission I used as an outline. However, I have also placed
hints in this file, so if you are having problems with a mission, please feel free to refer to that
document for some help.
